Would you pay for something you wont receive?

Many gritting contractors will advise that by paying a fixed cost up front for the winter season will cover you from October til April. For example they calculate that they will visit your site 30 times @ £85 per run in a season and therefore will cost £2550.

So what happens when it is a bad winter and you will need more than 30 visits?

Nothing happens.

The contractor will race up to 20 visits, then fall away towards 30 then you wont receive any visits and your property will be unprotected. Why would the contractor come out and make a loss when they have calculated to visit you 30 times that season?

How do we know this? we have taken on many customers who had set up there winter maintenance this way and they informed us of the problems they received.

So what happens if we have a mild winter, like this season?

Simple – You have completely overpaid for something you won’t receive, wasting your budget.

Would it not be more simple to pay as you go with a long established company who takes the time to analyses the weather before making a decision to grit or not?

We don’t sign customers into contracts so you can try us and leave if you are not happy at any time. We only grit as and when it’s required so you are never over or under gritted. We can save your budget by actually applying brainpower and science and give you the reassurance of a long established, professional gritting and snow clearing service.

Jack Frost has returned and he’s not going away yet.

Freezing: Deer herds at Studley Royal near Ripon, stick close together as white frost covers trees and grass following another night of severe frost

He has been absent during one of  the mildest winters on record. But yesterday Jack Frost covered the country with his icy spell on the coldest day of the year so far. Temperatures fell to as low as -10.5c  (13f) as the frost-covered landscapes brought a traditional winter feel to much of Britain

The Met Office said that the coldest place in the country yesterday was Aboyne in Aberdeenshire, where the temperature dropped to -10.5c (13f).

In England, the village of Redesdale Camp in Tynedale, Northumberland, the mercury fell to -8c (18f). Forecasters say that the cold snap will start to ease from tomorrow, with the freezing conditions replaced by heavy rain and clouds. It’s fair to say it is the first big frost. We have had these conditions for a couple of nights and it is the first widespread cold snap to last more than one night, But there is worse to come, with a three-day snap due to envelop the country from Thursday night, the country’s northern and western parts will be hit hardest before things settle towards the beginning of next week. According to the Met Office forecaster Byron Chalcraft warned ‘by Thursday it will turn colder again. Temperatures will dip to freezing, maybe a couple of degrees under, and we’ll see rain and snow showers around due to cold north-west winds’ ‘This will mainly affect northern and western parts of the country, Manchester in particular. ‘It could be enough for snow to settle in some parts, maybe a few centimetres, which would be the first snow of the year.’

‘With strong winds and possible heavy snow showers, people should be aware of very difficult conditions.’ Mr Williams added that although Scotland will be hit the hardest, the cold snap is expected to swiftly travel South.

He went onto say: ‘North-westerly winds are pulling cold air down from the polar regions.‘Winds will be strong through Wednesday in Scotland and on Thursday and Friday morning as far south as East Anglia, with 80mph gusts in exposed areas.’ He added: ‘Saturday will see frost and widespread road ice, with wintry showers for the whole of the UK apart from the South-East.’ So now is the time to get in touch with a member of our team and get your site protected before you have to close or your stranded.

Britain faces an early BIG FREEZE

September is here and were quickly heading into the winter again, BRITAIN was warned yesterday of another big freeze this winter – with snow expected to sweep in as early as next month. Temperatures are forecast to drop to below average for the time of year over the next few months.

Long-range forecaster James Madden said: “As we head towards winter, I expect to see the first signs of some moderate to heavy snowfalls as early as October or November in certain parts of the UK.

Britain was last year thrown into chaos as freezing conditions and heavy snowfalls paralysed transport networks and brought airports grinding to a halt. Parts of the UK saw up to 30 inches of snow. Temperatures plunged to -19C (-2.2F) in some areas. As the cold snap set in during the run-up to Christmas, it is thought to have cost the economy up to £1.2billion a day, with a total loss of £13billion.

Yesterday, the US firm that predicted last year’s Arctic snap as well as the previous big freeze of 2009-2010 also warned that we might be in for another cold spell, coming sooner rather than later, so now is the time to get in touch and put in place your winter programme.

Record Breakers.

As the winter 2010/11 comes to a close, it been time to take stock on another record breaking and very successful season for Gritting.com. Over the past five months the company has conducted around 16,000 gritting runs using thousands of tons of salt in the process.

Their vast experience and expertise accumulated over the last 20 years of providing gritting and snow clearing services to commercial sites across the UK ensured that all customers were protected every night from frost & ice, whilst keeping all sites clear of snow throughout another extremely cold winter.

Managing Director, Chris Rymer explained ‘ Because of our unique infrastructure, we are able to keep our own gritting Staff employed full time throughout the year with our sister company Spa Environmental’. Chris went on to say that ‘ many of our employees have been with us for over 15 years. ‘They have vast experience of gritting because we offer them a full time contract rather than letting staff go during the out of season months and then recruiting fresh gritters come the winter that have no knowledge or experience of your sites’. ‘ This is what tends to happen with our competitors and they can end up with inexperienced staff drawn from the unemployment pool, who want a bit of work during the winter ‘.

‘This enables us to provide an outstanding service quality because every employee has a vested interest in the Company and its customers’. This allows Gritting.com to offer their customers unrivalled continuity of winter protection.
